Veterans Aid & Attendance

Empowering Metro Detroit Veterans with AtHome Aid & Attendance Support

You gave your life to service. Now, let us assist you in living well at home. The Veterans Aid and Attendance Benefit is a taxfree VA program that financially supports wartime veterans and their surviving spouses who need regular personal care or supervision. It helps cover inhome assistance with daily tasks, from bathing and dressing to mobility support and medication reminders, so you can maintain independence and dignity in your own home.

At Home Care Central, we proudly help veterans across Livingston, Oakland, Wayne County, and the surrounding areas access this benefit and the care it enables. Our team simplifies the application process and connects you with compassionate inhome caregivers who provide reliable, respectful support.

Who Qualifies for Aid & Attendance?

Veterans must have served at least 90 days of active duty, with at least one day during a wartime period, and received an honorable or general discharge. Eligibility also depends on medical needs. You may qualify if you require help with two or more activities of daily living (ADLs), are mostly confined to bed, have vision impairment, or are housebound due to a permanent disability. Surviving spouses of eligible veterans may also qualify for the benefit.

Services covered may include:

  • Personal care (bathing, grooming, dressing)
  • Medication reminders and monitoring
  • Mobility and fall prevention assistance
  • Meal preparation and light housekeeping
  • Daily companionship and supervision

What Can the Benefit Be Used For?

Veterans Aid and Attendance can be applied directly to the cost of non-medical in-home care. These services are delivered right at home by Home Care Central's experienced caregivers, professionals who understand the needs of veterans and are committed to providing care with dignity and compassion. If you or a loved one could benefit from support at home, reach out today to learn how we can help.

How to Apply for Aid & Attendance

Getting started with the Aid and Attendance benefit begins with gathering the right documentation and understanding what's required. To streamline the process and avoid delays, follow these key steps:

  1. Gather Military Records: Locate your DD-214 (or equivalent discharge papers) to verify active duty service and wartime eligibility.
  2. Compile Financial Documents: Prepare income statements, recent bank records, and any investment information to help establish financial need.
  3. Track Unreimbursed Medical Expenses: Keep receipts for ongoing care costs or services not covered by insurance. These may help lower your countable income.
  4. Obtain a Physician's Statement: Have your doctor complete VA Form 21-2680 to document your need for daily care.
  5. Submit Your Claim: Apply online at VA.gov, by mail, or in person at your nearest VA regional office.

While Home Care Central does not file veterans' aid and attendance forms directly, we're here to support you throughout the process, offering guidance and preparing for care as soon as approval is granted.
